"It's totally worth it!"

When planning my safari, I wasn't sure I wanted to do the hot air balloon, but I finally decided to do it - it truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! I'm beyond ecstatic that I did the balloon safari! I did the balloon safari in the Ndutu area. The night before, a driver came to the camp for a short briefing about what to expect and explained the procedures for the following morning, including what time they would come to pick me up. In the morning, the driver was early and ready at the specified time. We drove to the launch site where we were greeted by the team already preparing the balloon. I had a great pilot - over 40 years experience! It seems hot air balloon pilots from all over the world wait for their opportunity to come fly in the Serengeti. And I see why! It was a wonderful flight (we had excellent weather) . And from the balloon we saw zebra, gazelles, wildebeest, eland, hyena, warthogs, and many more. The balloon wasn't full and wasn't too heavy so we flew a little bit more than an hour before landing nicely in the Serengeti. On our descent, we saw a pride of 11 lions!! Just the coolest thing every to see lions from the air! After landing, the crew was immediately there with the vehicles to take us to breakfast. That was the best English breakfast I've ever had. Plus champagne with mango juice. I think all my future mimosas will have to be with mango juice and not orange juice. After breakfast, the team drove to a predefined meeting place so I could meet back up with my driver and continue on for the day! The balloon safari is not just an "add-on" experience but truly an essential experience for your safari! The Serengeti Balloon Safaris team was extremely professional and helpful throughout. And the commitment to safety is obvious. Highly recommend - make your safari special and do the balloon safari!

"FANTASTIC--ONCE IN A LIFETIME"

Serengeti Balloon Safari has stringent safety regulations and they bring in pilots from all over the world for 1-2 year assignments. Pilots come for the once-in-a-lifetime experience to fly the Serengeti, and you should too. This is worth every penny, especially when half the fee goes to conservation. Our pilot had over 40 years of experience. There is absolutely nothing like the perspective you get on the majestic Serengeti as you gently rise above the zebras, ostriches, lions, wildebeest, gazelles, hyenas and more and drift over them as they move beneath you. The landscape itself is spectacular.. We had three potential mornings to do our balloon ride, and Serengeti Balloons came to our camp the night before what they thought would be the best morning to ensure our experience--superb customer service. Our driver, Steven, is a Maasai. He picked us up in the dark, and our drive turned into a fascinating nighttime game drive, with him shining a flashlight out the window and identifying animals . Let me tell you, it is chilling to see those eyes peering at you from the darkness. Steven also gave us a fascinating insight into Maasai culture and their skills in the bush. Our later driver did a masterful job of navigating the very wet and muddy Serengeti, sterling us safely to our breakfast. Breakfast itself was truly delicious. I expected a tack on experience, but it was wonderful! Do this. It is truly worth it.

"Serengeti Balloon Safari"

Wow! A perfect morning, quiet and clear. Our pilot /Areonaut Captain Bob gave us a safety talk about what we could and should not do in the air. It was evident that Safety is his number 1 priority. Captain Bob is a very personable man who is easy to talk to and explains/ points out animals and items in the area we are covering. Captain Bob brought our balloon to close to a pod of Hippos. The champagne breakfast menu was well thought out and a gourmet delight!

"A true Serengeti experience!!"

The night before it didn't look like we would go on a hot air balloon safari. Pouring rain and dark sky....but in the morning when we arrived...early......the weather changed and up we went after a security breafing by our capt. Frank. A true professional and a great asset for the company. The flight was magical despite the lack of animal sightings. And the breakfast afterwards was another magical moment. You haven't experienced Serengeti untill you've been on a hot air balloon safari!!

"Great Experience!"

Our group had a great time with SBS! We were not sure if we would be able to fly on account of rain in the area, but our pilot, Bob, was patient and after a bit of waiting we were in the air. The views were stunning and Bob made sure to rotate the basket so everyone got a chance to see from the “front.” We saw the migration, saw hyenas from close enough to hear them laughing, and even saw flamingos and hippos. The champagne toast after was a nice touch, and the “bush breakfast” was great as well.

"Wonders of Serengeti from the heights of our Hot Air Balloon"

Wake up early, and quite 1h of drive to the take off location. Totally worth it! When leaving our lodge (serengeti tortillis camp) we saw the lion that we heard all night long crossing the road right in front of us. Our pilot a portuguese ex militar was very friendly, who was explaining loads of stories and passing over his experience to the 16 people on board that day. If you are scared of heights, it is ok! Just don't stop yourself of living this amazing experience. For some reason I convienced my husband to jump on the balloon and he still says it was the highlight of our honeymoon.
